Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that City Departments will be closed on Monday, May 29, 2023 in observance of the Memorial Day holiday.

• Departments in City Hall will be closed on May 29, 2023.
• The Sanitation department will not collect trash, recycling, or yard waste on Monday, May 29, 2023.  Residents who normally have sanitation service on Monday are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 30.  Crews will collect refuse for both Monday and Tuesday throughout the day on Tuesday, May 30, with the possibility that part of Tuesday's collection could extend into Wednesday, May 31.
• Marion Area Transit will NOT operate on Monday, May 29, 2023.  Normal hours of operation for bus service will resume on Tuesday, May 30.
• Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, May 29, 2023.  No senior transportation will be available that day with the exception of dialysis appointments.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

The Marion City Income Tax Department will be offering extended business hours on Friday, April 14 for individuals needing to file tax returns prior to the tax deadline of April 18.  Marion City Income Tax Department Hours on Friday, April 14 will be 8:00 am – 5:00 pm.

The City of Marion is announcing that weekly curbside yard waste collection for the 2023 collection season will begin on Monday, April 10 and run through Friday, December 8, 2023.

The curbside pick-up for yard waste generally occurs on the day following each resident’s regular trash collection day (example: Friday trash pick-up - Monday yard waste pick up). With limited personnel collecting yard waste, this schedule may vary. Note: Residents with an excessive delinquent sanitation and sewer account balance are not eligible for curbside pick-up of yard waste.

There is a limit of 3 bags and/or 3 bundles of limbs/branches that will be collected from each residence per week during the 2023 yard waste season. Branches must be tied in bundles no larger than 2 feet in diameter and 5 feet in length. As in the past, the City will not collect grass clippings as yard waste material at curbside. Please note: yard waste collections that exceed the limitations listed above may result in a special pick-up charge.

Residents are encouraged to drop off grass clippings and yard waste materials, free of charge, to Outdoor Resource Supply (formerly Park Enterprise), which is located at 560 Barks Rd. W. (between S. Prospect St./Rt. 4 S. and the Barks Rd. overpass). Requirements for grass and yard waste drop off are:

1. Must stop at office or other designated location where verification of City residency (i.e. license, utility bill, etc.) may be required.
2. Items being dropped off must be weighed by Outdoor Resource Supply employee before materials are discarded.
3. Residents using plastic bags are required to remove waste from bags and then discard of plastic bags properly. Biodegradable paper bags are available at most local retail stores.

Also, note that the City of Marion is not responsible for the collection and/or disposal of trees or large amounts of brush cut and/or removed from personal property. These items may be taken, FREE OF CHARGE for all city residents, to Outdoor Resource Supply (560 Barks Rd. W.) for disposal.

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that in observance of the Presidents Day holiday, many City of Marion departments will be closed on Monday, February 20, 2023;  however, some departments will be operating on a normal schedule.  Following is information regarding office and departmental schedueld for February 20, 2023:

• All offices in Marion City Hall will be closed.

• Sanitation crews will collect garbage and recycling on Monday, February 20.  Residents with Monday sanitation collection are asked to have their trash and recycling at curbside by 7:00 a.m.

• Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, February 20.  No senior transporation will be available that day with the exception of dialysis appointments.

• Marion Area Transit will be observing normal hours of operation on Monday, February 20.

Essential services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

Mayor Schertzer is announcing closures and modifications in operational schedules for City of Marion departments for the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.  It is important to note that as a result of Christmas Day and New Year’s Day falling on a Sunday this year, the federally observed holiday will occur on Monday, December 26, 2022 and Monday, January 2, 2023.    

• All offices in City Hall will be closed on Monday, December 26, 2022 and Monday, January 2, 2023. 

• Sanitation collection will not take place on Monday, December 26, 2022 or Monday, January 2, 2023.  Residents with Monday sanitation service are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 am on Tuesday, December 27 and Tuesday, January 3.  Crews will collect both Monday and Tuesday’s refuse on each Tuesday.  Sanitation crews will also begin collecting live Christmas trees on Tuesday, December 27 and continue tree collection through the month of January.  Live Christmas trees should be placed at curbside on the resident’s trash collection day.  The tree should NOT be wrapped in plastic and ALL lights and decorations must be removed.
   
• Buses for Marion Area Transit will operate on a normal schedule on Friday, December 23, 2022 and Friday, December 30, 2022.  Bus Service will NOT be in operation on Monday, December 26, 2022 or on Monday, January 2, 2023.
   
• The Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, December 26, 2022 and Monday, January 2, 2023.  Senior Transportation will not be available on either day, with the exception of dialysis appointments.

Necessary services including police, fire, and airport will operate as usual.

The Lincoln Parks Aquatics Center will be holding a Holiday Sale for 2023 Aquatics Memberships.   Adult, Youth, Family, Senior Citizen, and Water Walking memberships will be included in the sale that begins Monday, December 5, 2022 and will run through Friday, December 30, 2022.

The final day for the Holiday Sale is Friday, December 30, 2022.

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing upcoming closures that will affect services for City of Marion residents over the Thanksgiving holiday.  The following closures and modifications in operational schedules are being announced for various city departments:

• All offices in City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 24 and Friday, November 25, 2022.

PLEASE NOTE:  As a result of City Hall offices being closed on Thursday and Friday, offices in City Hall will be observing their weekly early closure day on Wednesday, November 23.  Notable early closures include the Municipal Court office and the Utility Billing office closing at 2:00 pm.

• The Sanitation and Streets Department will not collect trash, recycling, yard waste, or leaves on Thursday, November 24, 2022.  Services by these crews will resume on Friday, November 25 with the Sanitation Department collecting refuse, recycling, and yard waste for both Thursday and Friday on this day.  Therefore, residents who normally have Thursday sanitation and recycling service are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Friday.  Leaf collection will also resume on Friday.
• Marion Area Transit will be closed and have NO bus service available on Thursday, November 24 or Friday, November 25.  Bus service will resume normal hours of operation on Monday, November 28, 2022.
• Marion Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 25, 2022.  No Senior transportation will be available on Thursday or Friday, with the exception of dialysis appointments on Friday only.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that some City departments will be closed on Friday, November 11, 2022 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday, while other departments will operate on their regular schedule for the day.  A schedule for notable departments follows.

PLEASE NOTE:  As a result of offices being closed on Friday, the weekly early closure day for many offices in City Hall will be observed on Thursday, November 10.  Most offices will be observing their Friday business hours on this day, with notable early closures being the Municipal Court and Utility Billing offices closing at 2:00 p.m.

The following departments will operate as noted below on Friday, November 11:

• All offices in City Hall will be closed.
• Sanitation crews will collect garbage, recycling and yard waste on November 11.  It is requested that customers with Friday sanitation service have their collections at curbside by 7:00 am.
• Marion Area Transit will be open with buses operating normal business hours on Friday, November 11.
• Marion Senior Center will be open on Friday, November 11 with Senior Transportation available from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.  The Center will also host a special "Veterans Day Celebration" beginning at 12:00 pm with a free lunch for all local veterans followed by a ceremony recognizing and honoring veterans in attendance.  The public is welcome with non-veteran guests being able to purchase lunch tickets at the door for $4.00.  Contact the Senior Center at 740-387-6100 for additional infomation.

City residents are also reminded that yard waste and fall leaf pick-up will continue through Friday, December 9, 2022.  The options available for disposal of leaves are as follows:

1. Leaves may be raked to the tree lawn area to be vacuumed (Residents are reminded that leaves are NOT to be raked into the street or parking lane);
2. Leaves may be placed in biodegradable paper bags (limit 3 per week) for City sanitation workers to pick up; or
3. Leaves may be taken to the free drop off location at 560 Barks Rd. W. in biodegradable paper-bags.  Proof of City residency may be required.

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that leaf collection for city residents will begin on Monday, October 31 and continue through Friday, December 9, 2022.  The three options for disposal of leaves by city residents are:

Trick-or-Treat in the City of Marion will be held from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm on Monday, October 31, 2022.

In 1999, Marion City Council passed legislation which set "Trick-or-Treat" night within the City of Marion for October 31 of each year between the hours of 5:30 pm and 7:30 pm, unless October 31 falls on a Sunday.  If October 31 falls on a Sunday, "Trick-or-Treat" night will be observed on the preceding Saturday.  As a result of the passage of this Ordinance, the date for Trick-or-Treat must be held as noted above. 

Inclement weather:  In the event of inclement weather, the date that is set (by City ordinance) will not change. Parents/guardians are encouraged to exercise their own judgment on whether they allow children to participate.
