Mayor Bill Collins is announcing that all offices in Marion City Hall will be closed on Monday, January 15, 2024 in observance of the Marion Luther King Jr. holiday.

The following departments for the City of Marion will operate as noted below on Monday, January 15, 2024:

  • Sanitation crews will collect garbage and recycling on Monday, January 15.  Residents who normally have refuse collected on Monday are requested to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m.
     
  • Marion Area Transit will be open with bus service available on Monday, January 15, 2024.
     
  • Marion Senior Center will be open with transportation available on Monday, January 15.

Essential services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

The following closures and modifications in operational schedules for City offices are being announced for Christmas and New Year's holiday weeks.    

  • All offices in City Hall will be closed on Monday, December 25, 2023 in observance of the Christmas holiday and Monday, January 1, 2024 in observance of the New Year's holiday. 
     
  • Sanitation collection will not take place on Monday, December 25 or Monday, January 1.  Residents with Monday sanitation service are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 am on Tuesday, December 26 and Tuesday, January 2.  Crews will collect both Monday and Tuesday’s refuse on each Tuesday.  Sanitation crews will also begin collecting live Christmas trees on Tuesday, December 26 and continue tree collection through the month of January.  Live Christmas trees should be placed at curbside on the resident’s trash collection day.  All lights and decorations must be removed and the tree should NOT be wrapped in plastic.
     
  • Buses for Marion Area Transit will not operate on December 25 and January 1.  Marion Area Transit will resume normal services on Tuesday, December 26 and Tuesday, January 2.
     
  • Marion Senior Center will be closed on Monday, December 25, Tuesday, December 26, and Monday, January 1.  Transportation will be available for dialysis patients only on December 26.  All other programs, activities and transportation will not be available through the Senior Center on the above noted dates.

Necessary services including police and fire will operate as usual.

Calendar: 

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing upcoming closures that will affect services for City of Marion residents over the Thanksgiving holiday.  The following closures and modifications in operational schedules are being announced for various city departments:

  • All offices in City Hall will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, 2023.

    PLEASE NOTE:  As a result of City Hall offices being closed on Thursday and Friday, offices in City Hall will be observing their weekly early closure day on Wednesday, November 22.  Notable early closures include the Municipal Court office and the Utility Billing office closing at 2:00 pm.

  • The Sanitation and Streets Department will not collect trash, recycling, yard waste, or leaves on Thursday, November 23, 2023.  Services by these crews will resume on Friday, November 24 with the Sanitation Department collecting refuse, recycling, and yard waste for both Thursday and Friday on this day.  Therefore, residents who normally have Thursday sanitation and recycling service are asked to have their collections at curbside by 7:00 a.m. on Friday.  Leaf collection will also resume on Friday.
     
  • Marion Area Transit will be closed and have NO bus service available on Thursday, November 23 or Friday, November 24.  Bus service will resume normal hours of operation on Monday, November 27, 2023.
     
  • Marion Senior Center will be closed on Thursday, November 23 and Friday, November 24, 2023.  No Senior transportation will be available on Thursday or Friday, with the exception of dialysis appointments on Friday only.

Necessary services including fire, police, and airport will operate as usual.

 

Updates: 

Mayor Scott Schertzer is announcing that some City departments will be closed on Friday, November 10, 2023 in observance of the Veterans Day holiday on Saturday November 11, while other departments will operate on their regular schedule for the day.  A schedule for notable departments follows:

PLEASE NOTE:  As a result of offices being closed on Friday, the weekly early closure day for many offices in City Hall will be observed on Thursday, November 9.  Most offices will be observing their Friday business hours on this day, with notable early closures being the Municipal Court and Utility Billing offices closing at 2:00 pm.

The following departments will operate as noted below on Friday, November 10:

  • All offices in City Hall will be closed.
  • Sanitation crews will collect garbage, recycling, and yard waste on November 10.  It is requested that customers with Friday sanitation service have their collections at curbside by 7:00 am.
  • Marion Area Transit will be open with buses operating normal business hours on Friday, November 10.
  • Marion Senior Center will be open on Friday, November 10 with Senior Transportation available from 8:00 am - 3:30 pm.  The Center will also host a special "Veterans Day Celebration" beginning at 12:00 pm with a free lunch for all local veterans followed by a ceremony recognizing and honoring veterans in attendance.  The public is welcome with non-veteran guests being able to purchase lunch tickets at the door for $4.00.  Contact the Senior Center at 740-387-6100 for additional information.

City residents are also reminded that yard waste and fall leaf pick-up will continue through Friday, December 2023.  The options available for disposal of leaves are as follows:

  1. Leaves may be raked to the tree lawn area to be vacuumed (Residents are reminded that leaves are NOT to be raked into the street or parking lane);
  2. Leaves may be placed in biodegradable paper bags (limit 3 per week) for City sanitation workers to pick up; or
  3. Leaves may be taken to the free drop-off location at 560 Barks Rd. W. in biodegradable paper bags.  Proof of City residency may be required.
