ORDINANCE AMENDING MARION CITY CODE SECTION 373.12 RECREATIONAL BIKE ROUTE IN ORDER TO PROVIDE NECESSARY UPDATES RELATED TO A NEW 10-MILE BIKE ROUTE HAVING BEEN ESTABLISHED BY COUNCIL
WHEREAS, the Council has been made aware of a new 10-mile bike route available within the City limits of Marion. This modification was considered by the Traffic Commission on May 21, 2013 with a 6-0 vote in favor of the content changes below.
WHEREAS, the Council finds it necessary to modify the relevant Marion City Code Section 373.12, by deleting portions of the previous Code Section.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of Marion, Marion County, Ohio:
Section 1. Council finds it necessary to amend the existing Code as follows:
Section 373.12 currently in existence shall be modified to incorporate the following amendment/modification:
§373.12 RECREATIONAL BIKE ROUTE.
(A) A ten mile recreational bike route shall be established as approved by the Traffic Commission.
(B) Such route shall be a continuous circular route, to be traveled in a counter clockwise direction, connecting four major parks, including Garfield, McKinley, Lincoln and Sawyer Ludwig Parks.
(B) Such route shall be identified by bike route and bike crossing signs consistent in design with standards established by the National Joint Committee on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Such devices shall be installed under the direction of the Safety Service Director.
(C) Bike route maps and bike safety and registration information shall be prepared and distributed to provide maximum publicity to cyclists and motorists. ('70 Code, § 373.12) (Res. 1974 9, passed 4 22 74)
Said modification previously having been recommended by the Traffic Commission on May 21, 2013 with a 6-0 vote.
Section 2. This Ordinance shall take effect and be in force from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
