RESOLUTION TO AUTHORIZE THE SAFETY DIRECTOR TO ENTER INTO AN AGREEMENT WITH THE OHIO DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ACQUIRING FUNDS FOR THE REMOVAL AND REPLACEMENT OF INFECTED ASH TREES IN CITY PARKS
WHEREAS, quality of urban life is enhanced by the proper management of the urban park, forest resource; and
WHEREAS, the City of Marion recognizes the importance of providing tree and shrub related benefits to its citizens; and
WHEREAS, the Marion City Parks Department has made application for funding for the removal, purchase, installation and care of trees and other urban vegetation is available through the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry.
BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Marion, Marion County, Ohio:
Section 1. That the City of Marion approves an application for the Western Lake Erie Basin Ash Tree Removal and Canopy Restoration Grant for financial assistance for the removal and replacement of infested ash trees in city parks.
Section 2. That the Safety Director, or his designee, is hereby authorized and directed, on behalf of the City of Marion, to execute an application with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, Division of Forestry, Western Lake Erie Basin Ash Tree Removal and Canopy Restoration Grant Program, and to provide all information and documentation required to become eligible for possible funding assistance.
Section 3. That the City of Marion does agree to obligate the funds required to satisfactorily complete the proposed project and become eligible for reimbursement under the terms and conditions of the Ash Tree Removal and Canopy Restoration Grant Program. The funds for the said Grant Program, shall be payable from the Land and Building Maintenance Fund for the Parks Department. The total project cost is $6,000 and will require $3,000 in local funds to meet the 50/50 local match.
Section 4. That this resolution shall become effective from and after the earliest period allowed by law.
